Learn Languages In Your Sleep?

Now that would be real news, wouldn’t it? Learning languages in your sleep is my kind of learning! But let’s take a minute and see what’s behind this.

First of all, there is no scientific proof to support learning while sleeping. Many have tried and only a few have said it works. I don’t know if that makes it a “fool-proof” way to learn languages.

Nevertheless, I have a better idea than sleep. if you’re learning Spanish, begin to play Spanish soap operas, Spanish radio or Spanish music (that you like) in the background. Do it while you’re cleaning, resting, working, driving. Just make it part of your background so you don’t pay attention to it but you do hear it.

This will help you develop a better sense of rhythm and timing when you do speak and will give you expressions that come to you more easily. It’s the way kids pick up a lot of their language. They hear it all day long. Sometimes it’s directed to them and other times not. Regardless of the circumstances, they get a feel for the language and that helps them learn the language more quickly.

Granted, it’s a little bit more involved than learning languages while sleeping but I think it’s healthier and has a better chance for success.
