Where to Learn Spanish Overseas

Learning Spanish can be quick and easy if you know where to go and what to do. Once you learn these simple tricks, then learning Spanish will only be a question of time. Of course, you need to apply them in order to make rapid progress.

#1 - Stay away from Americans. Or anyone else who speaks English. You can include them in your day if they’re as motivated to learn Spanish as you are but if they’re not, leave them alone. They will drag you down and potentially stop your progress. I say potentially because there is the chance you meet an English speaker who has no interest in learning Spanish. They are only overseas to have a good time. If that includes Spanish speaking people, great. If not, that’s great too.

You have to keep in mind that learning Spanish is the most important part of your trip. You can have a good time and learn.

#2- Stay with Spanish speaking people as much as possible. That means, do things you wouldn’t normally do. Go to religious services, go to clubs and stay late, join a wildlife group. Whatever your Spanish speaking friends do, you do it too. This won’t last forever so don’t sweat it. Your goal is to be with your friends (and their friends) and to speak Spanish as much as possible.

Keep in mind that these tips are short term. You only need to follow them for 3-4 months and then you are free to do what you please. That’s about the time it will take for you to get enough Spanish in your system so that you have it. From there, it’s only a question of improving.

Yet, once you see how much progress you’ve made in 3-4 months you’ll probably still stay away from Americans most of the time and still go wherever with your Spanish friends. You’ll find in the end that learning Spanish is not that difficult at all.
