A dream come true! Learn a language in 10 minutes a day. Well, like a lot of things, this statement is true if you are talking about learning the basics. Ten minutes a day is enough. However, if you want to learn to speak and understand, and you’re beginning from scratch, you’re in big trouble.
Does that surprise you? Of course not. However, there is some good news. If you already have a foundation in the language, then ten minutes a day is all you need to maintain and improve. Here’s how to do it.
First, remember that learning a foreign language is like playing an instrument. You need to keep your neurons in shape just like your fingers. You can do that by listening to the radio ten minutes a day. If you’re learning Spanish, find a Spanish radio station. Or grab some Spanish tapes. Just make sure you do it day after day for at least ten minutes.
Then, decide on words or expressions that you want to learn and include them in your routine. It doesn’t have to be ten mintues a day but a portion of each day. Find cool expressions that you’d say in English.
Finally, learning a language requires using it. Once you have simple words or expressions, find a way, even if you’re alone, to use them in context. When you’re in the shower, have an imaginary conversation. When you’re driving your car, do the same. Just use the foreign language in context and you’ll see a gradual improvement as time goes on.
And remember to do it at least ten minutes each day.
